Do my images get uploaded?
No. The image is redrawn on a canvas in your browser and re-encoded at your chosen size and quality. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which formats can I compress?
JPG, PNG and WebP. JPEG usually gives the smallest file for photos, WebP is a modern alternative, and PNG is lossless, so its quality setting does not shrink it in the same way.
Will compression reduce quality?
It can, depending on the quality you choose. Start around 82% for photos and check the before/after preview. Lower quality gives a smaller file but more visible artefacts.
Can I resize as well as compress?
Yes. Set a max width in pixels and the tool scales the image down before encoding, which is often the biggest saving for large photos.
